What to consider before booking
An air-to-water heat pump is a heating-system project, not simply an outdoor-unit purchase. It needs to deliver enough heat on cold days while working with suitable emitters, water flow, hot-water storage and controls.
Start with heat loss and emitter output
A room-by-room assessment should establish the heat required and whether existing radiators can deliver it at the proposed temperatures. House floor area or the output of the old boiler alone is not a reliable sizing method. Explain any planned insulation or extension so the design reflects the intended building.
Cylinder space, pipework and electrics
A change from a combi boiler commonly needs a separate hot-water arrangement. Space, recovery requirements, pipe routes, water flow and electrical capacity all influence feasibility. The quotation should identify necessary radiator, cylinder and electrical work rather than leaving those costs outside the headline.
Outdoor siting and commissioning
Airflow, access, defrost drainage, noise and the relationship to neighbouring windows should shape the outdoor location. Commissioning then needs to bring the equipment, heating circuit and controls together. A handover should explain the schedule, hot-water settings and how to use the system without repeatedly overriding it.
Scottish funding and installer requirements
Check current support with Home Energy Scotland before committing to grant-dependent work. Eligibility, product certification and installer requirements must be established for the proposed project. Ask Aura to confirm the delivery and certification arrangements in writing before relying on grant funding.
How much does air source heat pump installation cost?
Energy Saving Trust’s typical air source heat-pump installation benchmark. Actual scope and any funding are assessed separately.
This is a published reference figure, not an Aura offer or a guaranteed local price. Obtain a written quotation confirming the complete scope, exclusions and VAT treatment.

- Property layout and any available EPC
- Current heating, cylinder and radiator details
- Recent energy use and planned insulation work
- Possible outdoor location and funding requirements
Include your postcode and a callback number. Aura can then confirm whether a repair appointment, maintenance visit or installation survey is the right next step.
Enquire about air source heat pump installationYour questions answered
Can a heat pump work in an older home?
It may be suitable after assessing heat loss, emitters, pipework and available space. Building age alone does not decide suitability.
Do I need underfloor heating?
Not necessarily. Correctly sized radiators can work with a suitable design; each room’s required output needs checking.
Will it definitely be cheaper than gas?
No. Actual cost depends on tariffs, system efficiency, temperatures and use. Compare a property-specific estimate with your present system.
